试料激发与计算机操作时，鉴于安全，计算机的操作和激发试样，必须由一个人操作到底。激发试样前先将试样放好才能使用计算机的操作指令。在激发岗位操作时要注意听声音，试料放置不好，有漏气时，激发声音则不正常。每个试样，必须激发二次以上，计算机操作时，应记下炉号，次数和钢种，并要记录操作者的姓名。检查激发放电斑点，凝聚放电是好的，扩散放电(白点)是不好的。检查激发点的位置上是否有微小裂纹，气孔和砂眼，激发点有无重叠等，提供给数据处理工作时做重要的参考。

数据处理操作时，须着重指出的是，在验证分析试样的时间，也要激发接近含量的标钢，以便证明仪器是在正常的工作。数据的选择和取舍要稳重，要考虑多方面的因素，如铁值的变化，其它元素的变化，插入铝量，激发斑点、激发声音等，有时需要重磨试样分析验证，有时候需要多次激发来验证。分析数据，一律以标钢含量为准，以控制标钢的正负偏差为准。每次新换氩气后，工作曲线必须重新标准化，当瓶内压力降到15个大气压时，需要更换新氩气；如果在工作过程中发现激发斑点呈白点状，也应另换一瓶新氩气。
